If you are residing in the United States and your Private Information was potentially compromised in the Data Incident discovered by Urban One in May 2025, including those who received notice of the Data Incident, then you may be a Settlement Class Member. Excluded from the Settlement Class are: (1) the Judge in this case, and the Judge’s family and staff; (2) the Defendant; and (3) anyone who validly excludes themselves from the Settlement.
If you are a Class Member and wish to receive Settlement Benefits then you must submit a claim form by August 31, 2026.
Urban One will establish a Settlement Fund of $675,000.00. The Settlement Fund will first be used to pay court-approved attorneys’ fees and costs, a Service Award payment for the Plaintiff, and the costs of administering the Settlement. The remaining money will be used to pay for the benefits described below. There is an aggregate cap of $675,000.00 on these benefits. This means that if the total value of benefits claimed is over $675,000.00, everyone’s payments will be reduced pro rata so that they add up to $675,000.00. A full description of how this works is available in the Settlement Agreement.
Urban One has agreed to pay for a number of different benefits. All Class Members may enroll in three (3) years of CyEx Financial Shield Total credit monitoring services from all three bureaus and one of two cash payment options:
CyEx Financial Shield Total. All Class Members are eligible to enroll in three (3) years of CyEx Financial Shield Total. This comprehensive service comes with $1 million of financial fraud insurance, and includes monitoring for:
If anything suspicious happens, you will be able to talk to a fraud resolution agent to help fix any problems.
Option A: Documented Losses and/or Lost Time
Documented Losses. Class Members who incurred actual, documented out-of-pocket losses due to the Data Incident, may submit a claim for up to $10,000.00 (combined with Lost Time, the combined total is capped at $10,000.00). The losses must have occurred between March 15, 2025, and August 31, 2026, and you cannot claim a payment for expenses that have already been reimbursed by a third party. This benefit covers out-of-pocket expenses like:
losses because of identity theft or fraud
fees for credit reports, credit monitoring, or freezing and unfreezing your credit
cost to replace your IDs
postage to contact banks by mail
You need to provide documented proof, like bank statements or receipts, to show how much you spent or lost. You can also provide notes or papers you made yourself to explain or support other proof, but those notes or papers alone are not enough to make a valid claim. Your proof or notes should show that your expenses were because of the Data Incident.
Lost Time. Class Members who spent time responding to the Data Incident may claim up to fifteen (15) hours, at $25.00 per hour, for a maximum of $375.00 (combined with Documented Losses, the combined total is capped at $10,000.00). You must have spent the time on tasks related to the Data Incident. Some examples include things like:
For the first four (4) hours, you can make a claim without documentation. For the additional eleven (11) hours, you must provide proof, such as billing or bank statements, emails, letters, to show that you spent the time addressing tax-related issues caused by the Data Incident.
Option B: Alternative Cash Payment. Instead of the payment options in Option A, you may claim a one-time pro rata cash payment. It is expected that money will remain in the Settlement Fund after all expenses and all other benefits have been paid. This remaining money will be divided equally between everyone who claims a pro rata Cash Payment, with payment of up to $500.00. You do not have to provide any proof or explanation to claim this payment.
